Katrina was one scary assed bitch, but my family and I are blessed - our lives and homes are all okay. I'm still without power and while that's miserable in this heat, we are so, so blessed.
Thank the lord we are not having the incredible tragedy and disgusting things that are going on in New Orleans. Please y'all, please know that the looters and bastards that are behaving so atrociously in New Orleans are NOT representative of all New Orleanians. I am deeply shamed and appalled by these thug's behavior and that this is what people of the world are seeing of us.
Thank you Mindy for your phone call, and to all of you for emailing me. This is the first time I've been online since the hurricane hit. I'm at my aunt's, in the air-conditioning, counting my blessings, and praying for all of the many, many victims who's lives have been shatttered. At work this week, we've been helping families, evacuees from New Orleans as well as Gulf Port. Please keep them all in your prayers.

Roles reversed. Had a scare when I thought I lost my dad in the Office Depot today. One minute I'm perusing the blank disks aisle with dad right by me; next thing I know he's nowhere to be seen.

I walked all over that store three times. No sign of him. Panic was starting to set in. How the hell am I going to explain this to my sister, "uh, Lisa I lost dad."

Finally I find him! He had gone to the restroom in the back. Why on earth didn't he tell me first! Geez. Way to give me a heart attack.

This is turning out to be a banner day!! Not only do we get news that Lena is returning for the season finale (OMG!!!!), but I got my new computer today!!!!

My old pc was on it's last leg - it was so outdated and had the puniest of hard drives. So last weekend I was shopping for a new one, and found a really good deal on a Dell from my local computer shop. I was supposed to wait til Sat. to go pick it up, but I went today instead, and y'all, I'm so pee-my-pants happy!!And relieved. I had to hook it all up and I get SO nervous doing stuff like that. But it went well, and here I am speeding along. :D

I've got a cd/dvd burner - not a clue how to use it but it's gonna be so fun to learn!

Ah, nothing like a Mardi Gras parade to cheer a girl up. Especially the always irreverent and often raunchy Spanish Town parade. This was their 25th anniversary this year. Pink Flamingos were everywhere. We caught beaucoup beads, so many in fact we ended up giving tons away to some kids nearby.

My sis Lisa and me, ready to get things started.

They're filming the "Dukes of Hazzard" movie in town - hence this float. I'm thinking Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke will look slighty better than this dude.

Gah, caring for sick old people is depressing.

My poor mama is sick with pneumonia, AND is having bad back trouble - had to have an MRI on Tues. - take her back to the doctor on Mon. Been busy tending to her all week. Poor thing still feels awful and weak.

My grandma oddly enough gets jealous when others are sick, and tries to act pitiful to get attention. Oy.

And my dad is just plain out of his mind.

It's been cold and rainy all week, with no sun whatsoever.

I have PMS and I'm just a big fat whiny baby.

Just got back from seeing "Million Dollar Baby". Oh, y'all. You MUST see it. I hope it wins every Oscar it is nominated for.

In other news, after going to dad's and visiting and putting out his meds, I headed downtown for the open casting call they were having for "All The Kings Men". They need extras for scenes of Huey Long's assassination and funeral. I don't have any real expectation of being called - they needed men 30 to 60 yrs old the most - but hey, it was worth a shot. Plus, I think Janis would've killed me if I hadn't gone down there, since her absolute fave Patricia Clarkson is in the movie. ;) It also stars Jude Law (*sigh) and Kate Winslet. Not too shabby.

Well, I made it back from the frozen nawth and surprisingly my ass did not freeze. Who woulda thunk I would handle single digit temps so well. Go me. Course that whole "bundle up until you look like a stuffed tick" routine was a pain in the ass, but yeah, no frostbite. ;)

Dude, I went sledding! On a big tube!! Down a bunch of different slopes! Too, freakin fun for words! I've got some pics of that, and of me sliding on my ass (intentionally) on a big frozen lake - I'll post those somethime soon. Right now I am still exhausted. Geez, walking in snow will flat wear you out.

Got home late last night as our flight got canceled due to maintenance, but thank goodness we got tickets on another airline, and arrived home to balmy Louisiana. So nice to walk out the door without having to layer on 20 pounds of clothing. :)

I'll be writing more later. It's been laundry and gorcery shopping today, and I'm just beat.

Heading up north to Quebec in the morning! Gonna freeze my ass off but I am so looking forward to seeing and playing in big huge piles of snow. Sledding!!!

Pretty much have everything packed except for the stuff that has to wait til morning after I beautify myself. We're flying out of New Orleans so I gotta get ready a bit earlier. Tracey and Rejean and their bi-lingual brood will pick us up in Quebec. I think it'll be fun staying with them at their new house - they're fun people and their youngest kid Madeline is a mischievous little cutiepie.

I'm gonna miss my little kitty cats! I've been loving up on them this evening, assuring them their aunt Lisa is going to come over and feed them everyday. I wonder if they'll miss me - who knows if they're even all that aware of the time passing. I'm sure I'll miss them way more than they miss me. :)

See you guys next Monday! Enjoy tomorrow's "Alias" premiere. Heh.

Y'all we almost had a white Christmas! Believe it or not there was SNOW in south Louisiana on Christmas day. Snow that actually accumulated! Even more odd was that it all happened south of us - here in Baton Rouge we only got a few teeny tiny snow flurries. :( Fools that we are though we got excited even by that.

Shut up.

Christmas Eve was lots of fun over at Lisa's. The cousins from north Louisiana came over too, making it even more lively. My grandmother braved the cold and joined us all which was nice, though we had to bring her home early. While she was there we were able to get a Five Generations photo.

We opened gifts, drank, ate, played games, sang karaoke (but the mic didnt work right.) We did pretty much the exact same thing the next day, minus the singing. I vow one day to beat my cousin Jay at Trivial Pursuit. The guy is freakishly good. We played guys against girls, and they (mostly Jay) whipped our butts every single time. Grrrrr.

Had a ball with my digital camera. Best gift ever! It was so cool to take bunches of photos, download and print them and everyone could see them right away!

Got some nice gifts: a sweater, Snoopy candle, "Dazed and Confused Flashback edition" dvd, a photo album for my pics, hat, scarf and gloves, and a travel suitcase for my trip to Quebec. Talked to Tracey and she's all, "Yeah, the temp's not too bad today - only 15 below zero." *blink* I am so going to freeze to death next week.

So another Christmas come and gone. I always hate how it seems to end so quickly, but then once it's over it's OVER for me. I've already taken down the decorations and put it all away for next year.

And while it was fun, it feels good to have the house back to normal. :)

I'm listening to Swedish Christmas carols! Hee! I got the sweetest Christmas package from Kakan today - two tapes of Swedish music, including carols which are very, very beautiful. She also sent the Lena Sondag 2004 issue (!), an Isabella clipping, royal clippings, plus these really cool clippings of herself from last year when she won a competition and got to meet a famous Swedish singer. Go Kakan!

And then today I got an email from her, all about her experience of seeing Johan Hallstrom in that play I linked to on my site. Sounds like a fun, wild show - farting, peeing and sex! *snort* She got to meet him afterwards and he signed an autograph for her. She mentioned she has a friend in the U.S., Michelle, who told her about the play, so he asked how to spell my name and wrote "To Michelle". Awwwww. How sweet. And too kind of Kakan to mention me. :)

I'm just kind of giddy right now. Hee.

Ugh! Sure we all knew Jonathon was a raving mad man but seeing him actually give Victoria a slap/shove was still shocking. That was seriously disturbing. I think the producers should have elimnated him right then and there. Abusiveness should not be tolerated, and it sure should not be a part of an entertainment show. *shudder*

And how disgusting was Kendra with another of her "ghetto" comments on Africa, and then to top it off she disdainfully says "they keep breeding". *blinks*

Damn but that is some supremely ugly American shit.
